Preserving Heritage, Enriching Community, and Protecting Nature for Future Generations.
St Margaret’s In Ruins Conservation Trust is a registered charity, designated as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) under the Charities Commission of England & Wales (CIO number 1207840). Our mission is to preserve and revitalise the historic St Margaret’s Church ruins in the heart of West Raynham, North Norfolk.
St Margaret’s In Ruins is interested in hearing from you. In 2024, the National Lottery Heritage Fund awarded a 12-month grant to assess essential emergency work to stabilise the ruins. This will set in motion their future conservation and ensure the preservation of the cherished heritage for years to come. As part of this grant, the Trustees are exploring other ways to engage the local and wider community in potential activities and events, from talks and walks to wellbeing workshops and skills days. They welcome hearing your feedback.
A short form is available here to capture views and ideas from you. It will take 5 minutes or less to complete and is anonymous. To say thank you for your time, you can then enter into a free prize draw to win one annual family membership pass to Norfolk Wildlife Trust. The form is only available over the summer so do not leave it too long! Thank you.
We aim to create a Centre of Excellence at St Margaret’s, offering education and training opportunities in skills essential for heritage and environmental conservation, such as:
Equipping young professionals with skills to conserve historic sites and structures.
Teaching sustainable methods for maintaining historic churchyard landscapes.
Providing workshops on habitat management and environmental conservation skills.
Over the past five years, we have worked to create a serene, natural space that allows locals and visitors to connect with the site’s historical and ecological significance.
Our aim is for local people and visitors to enjoy, appreciate, and understand the context of the site, the history of the ruins, and our ongoing environmental initiatives.
Creating a rich habitat for local wildlife.
Promoting biodiversity and supporting species unique to the area.
Our conservation efforts and educational initiatives are possible thanks to the generous support of our community and donors. By contributing, you help preserve this historic site and support future generations in learning valuable skills that contribute to both historical and environmental conservation. The St Margaret’s Church ruins are open to the public year-round, 24/7.
We invite you to explore, reflect, and enjoy this special place that bridges the past with a sustainable future.
